Iné svety (Other Worlds) - North American Premiere (Toronto, New York)
Innis Town Hall, PM 9.30
Address: 2 Sussex Avenue, Toronto, ON
Czech Republic, Slovakia 2006 | Run time: 78 min. | Director: Marko Skop
Winner of an audience award at the prestigious Karlovy-Vary International Film Festival, Other Worlds is a documentary set at the end of the world about the end of the world. The East Slovak region of Saris lies on the border between Western and Eastern Europe. This humourous and engaging documentary by Marko Skop portrays six individuals representing their communities in this remote corner of the East Carpathian mountains-the Saris inhabitants, Carpatho-Rusyns, Romanies and Jews. They say we all have our own worlds and that these worlds are unique. Is this true? What does truth look like? And how does a culture keep its identity in a time of globalization? With a great love for its characters, Other Worlds conveys the joys of living within diversity, touching on universal themes of belonging, difference and nostalgia. Co-presented with ReelWorld Film Festival.
